"Pretty Bed"

Yesterday when Maylie climbed out of her crib during her nap, I knew the dreaded time had come.  It's so sad to me when we have to move our little "babies" into a toddler bed. It means they're growing up, and I'm never quite sure I'm ready for it.

So after dinner we retreated to the basement to find Tate's toddler bed, dust and clean it off, and bring it upstairs for a few minor repairs.  Maylie was so excited the entire time.  And after we got it all set up complete with a pillow, sheet and quilt, she just snuggled down and kept saying, "My pretty bed!!" It melted me.

Maylie has officially been our longest crib sleeper.  Tate had climbed out by 18 months, and Easton had to move to a bed shortly after 18 months so Tate could have the crib.  So we had a lot of practice of putting kids back in bed, using child proof door knob things, and with Tate, having to hold the door shut when he learned how to use the child-proof door knob.  But last night with Maylie, she just called me when she needed me and has been waiting so patiently in her bed for me to come get her.  What a sweetie pie!

Here's to Miss Maylie Grace and her new pretty bed!

What does the future hold?

I had to take a picture, because I couldn't believe he had built this all by himself.  I couldn't have done this even with instructions!!  And he built it out of his very own imagination.

I think he's destined to be an architect...or a pilot...or a doctor...or a teacher...or anything in the world...the possibilities are endless.  And I can't wait to see my children grow up into all they will become.  It's like a treasure hunt.  And I'm so grateful to be a part of it.

My Big Little Easton. {Part 2}

How is it that little boys can grow up seemingly overnight and we are left wondering how the little baby with big blue eyes turned into this strong, sweet, responsible boy.

A while back I posted this.  It was in 2010.  And now it's 2013 and you're even more grown up than you were then.  The time has flown.

Easton has been my best little friend lately.  He has matured and grown so much in kindergarten this year.  He has learned to calm his emotions, bear his deep testimony, teach a wonderful family home evening lesson all by himself, and read.  He amazes me with his ability to help with chores and tending Maylie so I can get a few things done.  We hold intelligent, adult-like conversations and he understands the subtle nuances of humor.  He is absolutely a delight to be around, and while there are many things that show me he's still little, I just can't believe how grown up he is every single day.

A few weeks back when we visited Nana and Papa's, they gave him a little temple figurine of the Idaho Falls Temple to keep for his very own.  They told him it was the temple they were married in, and he took it home all wrapped up safely in his backpack.  We got home late, and the boys went straight to bed, but when I went in his room the next morning after Easton had gone to school, I found this:.....

And here the temple resides.  It was entirely his own idea and I love how spiritual he is already.  I hope I can show the same dedication and love for the temple as my dear sweet Easton.
