Happiest of Halloweens.

This year it was really magical.  I've never been much of a Halloween girl.  I don't like creepy scary things in the slightest.

But the simple little things we did made the day truly special.

Grandma came up to visit for Easton's costume parade.  It was so sweet of her to make the long trip.  She took Tate back home with her so he could trick-or-treat at her house and spend a few nights with Grandpa and Grandma.

And seeing as we thought it wise to keep Maylie inside this year (due to her being a little under the weather), Maylie helped Patrick pass out the candy in her sweet little butterfly fairy costume...which she might be wearing again next year if it still fits! :)

This is the reaction I got when I told her to "smile."

And so trick-or-treating this year fell on just me and Easton.  This was Easton's first year of real trick-or-treating.  Every ward we've ever lived in has had a trunk-or-treat.  But this was so much more fun to live in a small town neighborhood and let Easton run door to door.  We stayed out for just over an hour and he made a haul in the candy department.  The candy he got was really fun--Halloween crackers, pretzels, licorice, fruit snacks, jolly ranchers, skittles, I can't even remember it all.

As we walked through the neighborhood, we talked and laughed and joked.  And I decided that Easton is one of the most hilarious, and purely fun boys I've ever been around.  I really felt our relationship grow.  I never thought this would be a blessing of Halloween, but it was.  And I'm so glad we got to treasure it together.

And I'll never forget the memories we made: the hot cocoa jumping out of the cup, the neighborhood troop of cats following us hoping to get a lick of the hot chocolate, the black cat we saw, Sister Morgan's glowing face as she told Easton in her sweet dramatic voice, "I've been waiting for you all day!", the haunted spooky Halloween tree, the boy with the "crunky" voice, the scary mask guy that tried to scare Easton when he opened the door (Easton said he wasn't scared, it just gave him the shivers!), the tumbling on the grass from running to fast, and the "spooky" walk home via the dirt pathway.

We had the best time in the world and I just can't wait for next year.

I've decided trick-or-treating with my littles is one of the best things in the whole wide world.
