When all I can think about these days is Maylie and her upcoming birth, I'm frantically lovingly trying to prepare everything. I know it won't be perfect, but I'm trying get as close as I can. ;)
Now I need your help. What did you do or wish you had done to make labor special and precious? How did you savor the time in the hospital? What traditions have you (or will you) start with your own children's births? Please leave me a little comment (or a long one). I need all the ideas I can get.
Thank you so much,
Love,
Jamie

What a good question. Andrew and I have done a lot of thinking about the importance of childbirth, and even written on our blog about Childbirth and the Atonement.
One thing that helped Benjamin's birth be special is I prepared by learning as much as I could about my four great-grandmothers. I prayed about them, and thought about them during the actual childbirth, drawing on each of their individual strengths. Ben was born early so I didn't have time to prepare this, but I was going to surround myself with pictures of each of them, as well as other strong women in our family line. Angels are surely present during a special time like childbirth.
I wish I had something enlightening to say, but I don't. My most amazing and spiritual delivery was the one I did naturally by accident, but I don't dare recommend people go natural! :) Best of luck!
I love Ariel's idea, but I do recommend people go natural. It is a far different (spiritual) experience and I love it! One thing I have done with each birth was to buy a special cd to listen to when it gets to the hard part of labor. It is music that means something to me and helps me think of beautiful things. Another thing we have done with the last 5 babies is check into a hotel as soon as we leave the birth center. We spend time with all of our children and the new baby, but then my husband and I and our new little one spend precious time together away from everything. We watch nice movies, listen to music, play games, and I get pampered for a couple of days with much less noise and chaos!
I just wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything. So I took a notebook with me that stayed with me, by my bedside the entire time. I was able to write down my thoughts and feelings, as well as all of the important stats of how everything progressed. I later transferred it into my journal, but a little OCD I like nice handwriting in my journal, that's why I took the notebook. So helpful to capture all of the special moments that you might not remember afterwards with the rush of emotion and fatigue. I have also heard of friends who make a little shutterfly book for each of their children with the birth story in it. It was such a cute idea for them to see a last picture of you pregnant and how special their birth was! Hope she comes soon!
